IMDB rating: 6.70 Plot: Lewis, Sheriff and Tony are three American guys who meet and hang out one summer at the beach huts of Malaysia. There they enjoy the luxuries of women, rum and hashish. As the summer ends, Tony and Sheriff go back to New York, but Lewis decides to go to Borneo to help save the orangutan. But before he got the chance to leave, he was arrested for possession of the leftover hash and sentenced to death because he was considered to be trafficking. Two years go by and Sheriff and Tony are living their lives peacefully in The Big Apple when Lewis’ lawyer tells them the news: three years each if they both go, six years if one goes, Lewis’ death if neither go. Although they both do not want Lewis to die, they do not know him well enough to really want to sacrifice three years of their life to a Third-World prison. “Return to Paradise” watches Sheriff and Tony as they struggle to decide in the short period of time. |

Was Jesus' death *really* any kind of sacrifice compared with what some mortals go through?
God limited His powers by appearing on Earth as the Son. What kind of sacrifice was it to give this up and go back to being the all-powerful Father?
He suffered for 3 days, died, and then was resurrected as He knew He would be. So really he sacrificed nothing other than a lesser body (which He could have back at any time, being all powerful). And did it even work? Are we all now saved or will most of us still miss out on Heaven?
Are there not greater sacrifices made my man (and woman) all the time, which involve greater suffering, for smaller stakes, with more success, and less assurance of their own after-life?
Who wouldn’t give their life for mankind if they knew that death would only lead to paradise?
Surely Gods greatest gift (or sacrifice) would be to destoy satan, Himself, and all his powers in return for assurances than His most beloved people (us) would all live eternally in Heaven.
That’s a sacrifice I would be impressed with and thankful for.
Your thoughts?
I’m hearing that Jesus made an extreme sacrifice. What, exactly, did He give up?
Apart from a lesser existence in exchange for a greater one
Jesus is the example of the most extreme sacrifice. Never has a man been so innocent, and had such power, and sacrificed so much.
But God will finish off Satan, - there’s just an outstanding question as to why He hasn’t yet.
And Jesus re-captured the keys of death from Satan. Whether someone accepts that remains the issue. Rejecting the gift is signing your death sentence for eternity.

It was supposed to be a symbolic sacrifice, long on symbolism and short on any actual meaning. Christians don’t notice the difference though.

as an atheist and ancient historian, yes being crucified is at the very upper end of suffering

His suffering was in pat what he had to endure to save us, die in our place.
Historically the people opf Jerusalem suffered even a greater tradgedy after is death.
\ At his resurection the veil of the tem[ple was broken. The roof and the earthquake were in part prophetic to the people as Jerusalem had sufffered loss with severe tragedies before.
Siman Peter was revealed some things that Jessu Christ would do. Our eternal for was concerned that Jesus Christ was doing something , in a large way that would allow entry to the holy of Holies through his resurection and death. This was his concern. Yet what triumph an d goodness the work of the cross was to him.
Christ is not lesser if view in a depicted artistic state . He is our conquerer, redeemor and Lord.
Others martyrd to the grave will be given their portion of blessing and or crowns of righteousness one day.
To our faith their is more than mortal life ! God had destroyed the works of the enemy. He keeps him away at times in a large way as we fail to realize this, even in far off leands doe he do so.

Jesus was sinless and this "qualified " Him to take the keys
of death and hell away from satan when He was crucified.
So your wish has come to pass.
Revelation 1:18
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
This was not a contest of who could suffer more, but He became the sacrifice without
doing any wrong. You have to understand Old Testament hebrew tradition. The passover
Lamb was spotless without blemish. Thats a picture of what Jesus was. But He took
all our sins and all have the opportunity to believe and have your sins "transfered" to
the sacrifice and then you are "clean". I do suggest that you watch the movie the Passion
which is by far the best if you are able to watch. Its most graphic. Here is a clip
with the controversial song My Jesus. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1rqb1BG4 JU
hope the link works. The entire movie is very difficult to watch.
He did take power away from satan if you choose it, He did give you life eternal if you
choose it. He forces nothing on anyone.
If you read the New Testament closely Jesus came as an example , so think of that when
asking your questions. Will you give your life to help others? Matt 25:32-40
oh- forgot, if His body sacrifice wasnt enough, try living sinless for the benefit of others.
