How many global warming deniers are concern trolls?
I was reading a very insightful article on ‘concern trolls’ today, which are described thusly:
"The concern troll is also found in the climate debate among people who show up saying that they themselves believe in global warming and also believe that human emissions of greenhouse gases are to blame, but do not understand certain things. And then, by and by, the classic objections of the denialist scene emerge one after another. It is difficult to ascertain the motives of others on the Internet because they have to be inferred indirectly. Thus, it can be difficult circumstances to separate a real skeptic who wants to deal with a few issues from the "concern troll". A true skeptic will be satisfied with answers, a "concern troll" never. It can be irritating for the casual reader when an experienced person recognizes and attacks a "concern troll" after one or two comments, because in the opinion of the naive reader the "concern troll" had justified doubts that one should have dealt with politely. The polite answer, of course, ultimately wastes time that could be spent more productively and that thievery is a concern troll goal."
How many global warming deniers do you think are ‘concern trolls’ - what percentage, and how many on this site? And do some professional ’skeptics’ like Steven McIntyre and the Roger Pielkes fit the description?
No need for concern any more. AGW is getting more nails in its coffin every day.
We will have new things to worry about - like brain cancer from cell phones…

McIntyre and Pielkes definitely fit the description, as do a lot of the skeptical scientists. I don’t know if they would be in the majority though, there are a lot of honest skeptics as well.
Among non-scientists, if the definition is limited to those who actually believe (or claim to believe) that the warming is mostly anthropogenic, it is a pretty small percentage, I’d say less than 5% of all skeptics.
The definition could be made a little more broad though, since a surprising number of people express concern for the environment, but strongly disagree that CO2 is warming the planet. These are the types you see all over the internet who always start their arguments with a pro-green disclaimer, something like "I ride my bike to work every day, I always recycle and I never litter…but as for what Al Gore says…"
They always seem conceited, as if they thought it so wise and daring to think that air pollution and the mindless squandering of resources is bad, but that climate change might not be real. Such a deep and unconventional idea, they could only be one in a million.

Global warming is a natural process. it happens in cycles every once in awhile and has been for billions of years. Global Warming Deniers Favorite "Sunspot" Theory Refuted.

I think much of it stems from ignorance to be honest. I don’t mean that in an insulting way, but many people are not informed enough to realise what global warming actually means.
I agree there are some hard-headed concern Trolls out there, but they are not the majority.
Proffessional skeptics do not count. If they have the proper scientific knowledge to back their claimsthen they have every right to be skeptical. Disproving outdated theories with scientific evidence is a major part of what science is about.

The entire register of the paragraph quoted is distasteful and frankly wrong. Look at the language. It paints those who disagree with it as "trolls" who engage in "thievery" and whose "motives" are hidden and have to be "inferred indirectly".
Very unpleasant and undemocratic. It’s like someone claiming that those who disagree with them are simply ignorant and have no right to do so. No offence, Rory (oh, and btw, only one ‘f’ in professional).
What was the source for this article?

OK, I’ll bite. What the heck is an EV?
But until you people can explain away every bump and dip in the Holocene Epoch, I will have my doubts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Holoce ne_Temperature_Variations.png
Until you people pry the science away from politicians, who are only in it for money and power, I will have my doubts.

Until you can explain away the link, between global temperatures and sunspots, I continue to blame the Sun.

Call me what you will, it doesn’t hurt my feelings. But after 25 years of Chicken Little screaming about the sky falling, I’m still waiting…
EDIT: I suspected as much. Something like this perhaps? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4vwOdn26 Bk
Hey uh…that power wheel isn’t charged on a coal fired plant is it?

Dana,
What is your defination of "concern trolls"? Is it a big deal towards Junk Science?
Gladiator | Feb 06, 2010
Concern troll, sounds more fitting to warmist, where climate same becomes unprecedented climate change, where genocide becomes some kind of CO2 induced berserker frenzy, where proxy data is accepted and rejected on how well it fits the theory, where those who don’t agree are idiots just out there getting in the way of progress, stealing time that could be better spent saving the planet.
So evidently there are 3 types in the global warming debate.
Believers - know what the problem really is
Skeptics - misguided believers who merely need to have their issues answered
Concern trolls - only concerned for themselves and are either ignorant of the problem or know what the problem is and just don’t care.

Officials urged people to huddle at home and out of the way of emergency crews. Forecasters said the storm could be the biggest for the nation’s capital in modern history.
A record 2 1/2 feet or more was predicted for Washington. As of early Saturday, 10 inches of snow was reported at the White House, while parts of Maryland and West Virginia were buried under more than 20 inches. Forecasters expected snowfall rates to increase, up to 2 inches per hour through Saturday morning.
Blizzard warnings were issued for the District of Columbia, Baltimore, parts of New Jersey and Delaware, and some areas west of the Chesapeake Bay.
